Seventy Times Seven

No, this isn't a post about how many times we're supposed to forgive someone who sins against us. It's the average number of visits I get each day multiplied by the days in a week. (I remember when I was thrilled with 5 a day.) Since I'm an overachiever, I'm wondering how I can get this blog to "the next level". I decided that begging is always one way to get more visits.

If you visit me regularly, please consider adding me to your blog. Preferrably toward the top of the list. (Hey, it starts with the letter A doesn't it?) I'd be more than happy to do the same for you. Really.

First of all, I added you to my blogroll list a couple of days ago. You've got a pretty good list of blogs already linking to you, already, as well.

Second, just keep writing the way you want to write whether there are 7, 70, or 700 visiting each day. I started last March but didn't start tracking visits until July. I went from July to the middle of December at about 40 per day. It suddenly took off and I'm now 300-400 per day if no one links to me. That's still pretty small-time, but I didn't do anything different. It just took off one day. I don't have any clue what I need to do to get to the next level, so I just keep writing.

If you keep at it and write consistently good material and post consistently, you'll grow.

One thing that's helped me is that I always try to include specific terms and phrases in my posts, as it brings in all sorts of people with the search engines. If someone searches for XM8 and ends up at my site, they might look around. If they like what they see, they might be back. So make sure to include specific terms or quotes, which you seem to do most of the time.

Just keep at it. I know how depressing it can be when you're stuck at a level.

I would be swinging from the chandeliers in ecstasy for 70 visits a day. But visits is only one part of the equation. You should consider links, blogrolls (you are on mine), and the newest level of blog love, subscriptions to your feed. Begging is so undignified. What I suggest instead is reaching out to the kindred spirits, especially the supreme military bloggers, and make some kind of intelligent comment on something they wrote, or make a blog entry adding some value to something they wrote. It is my observation that the great bloggers check their referrer lists religiously, and visit when a new one appears. Hope this helps...

First of all, I can't believe that I didn't have Murdoc Online on my links!
Secondly, thinks to both Murdoc and Douglas for great advice.
This is part of what makes blogging fun.
