Things look pretty grim right now for the Bush Administration. Zogby Polls show the President's approval ratings have dropped to a record low of 42%. Iraq continues to be a gordian knot between the prisoner abuse scandal and the violent gunbattles with Al-Sadr's followers. The "tell-all" books just keep rolling out with scandalous accusations against the President and his administration. To top it all off, conservatives seem to be losing the cultural war with the legalization of gay marriage in MA only the latest disastrous skirmish.
This might be a good time to review why I support President Bush for re-election...
George W. Bush is the best man for the job. Yet a large number of Americans feel otherwise. It's very possible that this election could be lost. We can then look forward to being the butt of other country's jokes and we can leave Iraq with our tail between our legs. Remember what it was like during the malaise of the Carter years? Well, if Kerry is elected we'll get to relive those halcyon times.
In fact, everything going on right now makes me feel like making a donation to the Bush-Cheney Campaign.
I am trying to stay positive in light of all the events/polls/news taking place. The way I see it is that as the year progresses we will begin to see the STARK contrasts between the two candidates.
Hopefully, at that point, the choice for President will be obvious to those who have not made up their minds (and to those who think they will vote for Kerry right now)…
I couldn't imagine having Algore as President Post-9/11 and I can't imagine Kerry doing it either.
George IS the best man for the job. I think we need to take the country back from the socialists, for real. I don't want to live in France v.2
Posted by: Deb at May 18, 2004 07:08 PMZogby has been way wrong in the past, but he's on a roll right now, having called 1996 and 2000 with accuracy. There is a new strategy on the Democratic side; it's called "hide Kerry and scream louder at Bush about anything and everything" Don't let John Kerry expose himself by talking. Let the surrogates (Leahy, Lautenberg) do all the dirty work. This strategy has a better chance of working than anything the Democrats have tried so far, because Kerry is so cold, so unlikeable, so indirect, so weaselly, that the media is more than happy to ignore him and focus something else, someone else, anyone else, anything else. Make it sound like otherwise reasonable people are totally outraged about Bush.
I'm mad at Bush supporting RINO senator Arlen Specter instead of pro-lifer Pat Toomey. I'm mad at Bush apologizing to the Arab world. I'm mad at Bush leaving Judge Roy Moore to twist slowly, slowly in the wind. But I'm with you that eight years of President Do You Know Who I Am? would be an utter disaster.
Posted by: Douglas at May 18, 2004 07:50 PMGreat comments! Yes, I'm upset about Bush's support for the RINO Specter. I wish he would realize that every decision he makes based sheerly on political expediency backfires. (ie, steel tariffs)
I think the choice is obvious too which is why I'm so alarmed about the seemingly high level of support for Kerry.

I have to admit that I have MAJOR issues with Bush on a few issues. I also have to admit that I have a lot more with Kerry.
So I will swallow the bile and vote Bush.
I consider freedom based on three boxes.
The soap box- If you have ever seen a free speech zone while Bush is in town then you see one reason I am not happy. Nice corraled people
The ballot box- Small games played on both sides but not to horrible in the realm of politics
The Ammo box- Lets just say if the AWB stays the Democrats will get a good worker out of me next election.
But on the otherhand Kerry is worse then Bush ever could be. So I will swallow the bad taste and vote Bush(((shudder)))
They are both clowns. My vote is still in the air. There are some issues that they both annoy the hell out of me. Here's where I stand on what issues are important to me and who I think best suppors them.
Pro-military: Bush
Pro-death penalty: Bush
Pro-choice: Kerry
1st amendment rights: Kerry
Taxes: Bush
National security: Bush
Energy: Bush
Quit whining and fining radio stations and personalities because of your moral beliefs, if you don't like something tune out: Kerry
Let me tear the rain forests down so I can build my Ipe deck and Mahogany chairs: Bush
I think our votes in elections should be weighed against our IQ's/100.
Posted by: paul at June 23, 2004 10:32 AMPaul,
I don't see Bush as being that reckless with the rain forests. I think he's been painted as someone who doesn't care about the environment but I don't think that's accurate. To the environmental wackos, anyone who doesn't go to extremes and uses a little common sense is out to rape the forest.
As far as having votes count prorated by IQ. I've met an awful lot of people with high IQ's but without an ounce of common sense so I'm not sure that's such a good idea.
