Linkers, Thinkers and Naked People

There are two types of bloggers; Linkers and Thinkers. The thinkers write beautiful well thought out posts exploring and illuminating some area of interest. The Belmont Club and Evangelical Outpost are great examples of blogs run by thinkers. The linkers surf along in the blogosphere and cherry pick interesting items. Then they write brief, sometimes painfully brief, passages pointing out the location of the aforementioned interesting things.

I started this blog as a thinker. I would work really hard on a post, researching it and linking to my sources - then I would post it. Usually there was very little reaction to my masterpieces, just a collective ho-hum from the masses. Very disappointing.

Lately, though, I've been a linker. I've been shamelessly linking all over the place. Incredibly, I'm getting more hits than I've ever gotten and I don't understand it. You'd think anything I could post as a link would've already been picked over. Linker mode also has the important benefit of allowing the blogger to stay fully employed and actually working. So I'll still post some thought provoking stuff from time to time, but for now I'm running in deep linker mode.

Which brings me to this next morsel of information,

Clothing is wonderful, but let them go naked for a while, at least the kids. Water is necessary, and then generators, and then food, and then clothes. [Source]

When I first saw this quote I thought it was a joke. Then I saw that it was from a reputable news source. (ie, not CBS) Think about it people, do you really want this person as your first lady?

This thing was discovered over at Drudge and should be old news by now, but in the spirit of being a linker I take great pleasure in pointing it out. (In fairness I should point out that there are probably other types of bloggers other than thinkers and linkers but I couldn't think of any other terms that rhyme and still make sense.)

Hooray!! You have returned the comment box! Readers can handle being gagged for only so long.

I will let you and others decide the definitions for these suggested type of bloggers: dinkers, finkers, kinkers, pinkers, sinkers, tinkers, winkers, and zinkers! I have my own definitions for these folks, but nothing that I can post in a public blog.

If Theresa is so concerned about helping the hurricane victims, then perhaps she should go naked for awhile, and use that huge fortune of hers to help out instead of demanding the rest of us do so.

On second thought, no, seeing Theresa naked would be a DISASTER for our country.

Linking and Thinking, as you have noticed, is the best approach for the employed. I am sure of it. In fact, while I am way to humble to call myself a thinker, I have the same sort of philosphy, link to the cool stuff other folks have done and write at length when you are able. On the up side you are helping to promote those folks who are thinking by linking to them.

I might be a thlinker. I link on busy days (because I have to make money to pay for my webspace) and think on weekends and other quieter days.

Teresa is a shocker, that's for sure. And is it just me, or does she always look like she is wrapped so tight that she has to hang on for dear life? In the picture of her taken making that "let them go naked" speech (found on Drudge, with the green-Teresa blown up behind her), she has the sides of the podium in a death grip, like someone about to scream like a loon.

She is one scary woman.

Thinkers and Linkers. Like it!

I'm mostly a "linker", but enjoy the "thinker" posts the most.

I think one factor in your observation of blog attention is related to limited time. Few people, including avid bloggers, seem to take the time to read the lengthy posts--no matter HOW well written. I'm sure not even Glenn Reynolds reads a fifth of his abundant link targets. There's simply too little time!

Petite, pithy posts promote popularity and pique passions. This learned after killing myself on what I ignorantly thought was the "perfect post" ;-)

Sarah, could "Tinkers" refer to those who simply dabble in blogging, using it to post random musings and personal events as in a diary?
