Okay, here's the story. I get these excruciating headaches about once every three weeks. No matter what kind of pain medication I take, the headache doesn't go away for two days...really. In fact, I think taking pain medication for them actually prolongs the headache. So there I was the day before thanksgiving in excruciating pain and a co-worker suggest that I go to this place that does accupuncture and massages. I thought, hey, that sounds like something that might help my headache.
The place is "by appointment only" but I don't know when I'm going to have a headache so I figured I would just drop by. Here's the catch - it costs anywhere from $45 - $65 dollars, depending on what they do. Well, I went to the place and they were booked. I didn't get any little needles stuck in my body and I didn't get to have a complete, yet skilled, stranger rub my neck and shoulders.
So how does this have anything to do with the title of this post?
Today I visited Argghhh!, one of my favorite blogs, (except it used to be better before he started worrying about his status as a contractor with Tradoc) and saw that he was looking for donations to something called, Spirit of America.
Spirit of America has a lot of really cool projects:
Gifts for Iraqi Children
Sewing Machines for Women in Ramadi
Operation Snapshot
...and more.
If I'm willing to blow $45 - $65 dollars to get rid of a headache that I know will be gone the next day (I was already on day two) then I should be willing to kick in some money to help those who can't afford to do that sort of thing. Besides, John at Argghhh! is a good guy and a Rotarian to boot.
Go to Spirit of America yourself and pitch in.
Oh, and if you know of any good remedies for a two-day tension headache, I'm looking for ideas.
Posted by jdmays at November 27, 2004 04:39 PM | TrackBackWell, this may fall into the "Too Much Information" bin, but sex always helps me get rid of a headache. Hopefully you have a willing partner!!!
It is odd though, because it turns "not tonight, I have a headache" on it's head...

I've already tried that headache remedy - several times - and it doesn't help my headache. I keep trying though.
Good suggestion,

Major research studies have found that catnip works wonders against headaches. It is best to make a catnip tea using dried catnip leaves or one can simply chew a couple of fresh catnip leaves. (The friend who first gave me this advice stated he was so desperate to get rid of a headache that he used one of his cat's toys as a tea bag ... and it worked! His headache was resolved before he finished a second cup of the brew.)
In regards to sex relieving a headache, studies indicate that sexual intercourse must be performed a minimum of 43 minutes before measurable relief from one's headache is obtained. (JD, got any idea of how I can get in touch with Jack?!)

That sounds crazy enough that it just might work. I might have to try that. A quick google search shows all kinds of uses for catnip tea.
Sorry for being off message, but I saw your comment on The Rooftop, about speeches, and saw your post re: same.
You could add to those Jim Valvano's speech at the Espy's, which was moving and inspiring.
(Excellent site, by the way!)
Posted by: Tony Iovino at November 29, 2004 11:25 AMOkay, you are going to think I'm nuts for this but... There is a significant amount of research being done for using botox as a rememdy for migraine. I discovered this while researching alternative remedies to relieve the headaches I had post-brain tumor surgery.
I was told I would "have to with live it" for the rest of my life. It seemed that even if the tumor was gone, my brain "remembered" it and recreated the pain. They were killer headaches my friend, killer headaches.
While they were not "migraine" I figured I had nothing to lose but the pain and agony of the recurring headaches, so I coughed up the bucks and got the shot.
I didn't have a headache for 7 months. Not one!
Next shot lasted 9 months.
I have not had a headache or a shot for a bit over a year.
Do it.

much do botox shots cost?
