Saying Goodbye?

The big question I've been pondering lately, well one of the big questions, has been, "What is the best way to retire a blog?"

Some people just abandon theirs and the let the ravages of outdated posts take their toll. Others write a nice farewell post pointing out other good blogs to visit. I'm not totally sure that I want to give this up, but from the pace of posting lately it isn't too hard to see that my energy level for this is not what it used to be.

So...what is the best way to retire a blog?

I don't know how I would retire mine, although I can understand the "energy level dipping" syndrome. Sometimes you get busy with life...sometimes there's just nothing interesting to blog about...sometimes you just feel *blah* and don't feel like blogging about things that are interesting.

Considering the Diplomad just called it quits, all I can say is keep the fight alive -- even if you have to take some time off and just "do something else".

If you're not going to do it, just go in and cancel the blog. Don't leave an empty frame sitting on the screen. Make a clean break so you can truly separate from it and clear your head out. You can always come back later. But do so when you have something to say again.

The blogoshpere is getting crowded with all kinds of people these days and its beginning to feed on itself in a real unhealthy, incestuous kind of way. It's evolving and changing in ways I don't thing anyone really imagined even a few years ago. Video-blogging is right around the corner, as is cell-phone blogging. Hopefully, there will always be a place or those who simply have something of meaning and clarity to write in a world of sound and confusion.

Maybe you're one of those people and we're just waiting for you.

All the best.

Sorry for the typos. It's the decaf.

I have a feeling that anyone closing a blog might do so in a manner similar to their usual way of bidding farewell to a job, friends, classmates and, even in some cases, family.

I don't know about you, JD, but I usually "go quietly into the night." It's selfish but also a way for me to avoid feeling pain.

Is is possible that you are experiencing a bout of post-presidential election blues?

Thanks for all the comments. I think it's likely that I'll continue blogging on, albeit at a lethargic pace.
